Institute for Bio-Technology

[an error occurred while processing this directive] The laser laboratory at the Institute of Biosciences and Technology (IBT, Texas A&M Health Sciences Center, Houston) is an essential extension of our main laboratory into the biomedical field providing facilities for research work and collaborations with the IBT faculty. This laser laboratory is supervised by Prof. Schuessler and Dr. Kolomenski, who is also an Adjunct Research Professor at the IBT. Our ongoing projects include development of sensitive biosensors, studies of the dielectric properties of tubulin molecules pertinent to the signal transduction in brain, laser control over biomolecular interactions (with Prof. Paul Gershon), and measurements of cardiac markers in physiological solutions. For this work we use a home-built surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor and BIAcore 1000 and 3000 commercial apparata available at the IBT in the laboratory of Prof. Magnus Hook. Our SPR biosensor allows measurements in amplitude and phase detection modes as well as detection of light from fluorescent tags in the field of surface plasmons and the SPR imaging of molecular interactions.
